Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) (Bengali:বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিব মেডিকেল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is the only medical university in Bangladesh. The university offers MD, MS, M.Phil, MDS, Diploma and FCPS Courses.

The university started as Government-controlled postgraduate institute named Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR) (popularly called PG Hospital). IPGMR was established in December 1965. It was upgraded to a medical university and named as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University by the Act (No. 1, 1998) of the National Assembly of Bangladesh.[1]

The university is now autonomous governed by a 24-member syndicate. BSMMU comprises 36 Departments under 4 faculties. The university campus is located at Shahbag. It has a compact campus with a 750 bedded hospital.[2]
BSMMU is also equipped with a modern academic library known as BSMMU Central Library as well as a separate digital library.

BSMMU Campus has five main multistoried buildings that are identified as Block-A, B, C, D and Cabin Block.[3]
- Block A (a 8-storied building) accommodates the library, lecture theatre, auditorium, students hostel, Dental Faculty and Blood transfusion services.
- Block B is another 6-storied building which houses the administrative offices.
- Block C comprises 10 storied hospital.
- Block D, a 12-storied building under construction, houses several laboratories and emergency units.
- The Cabin Block is dedicated to causality department, and several other out-patient departments.
