Band Sergeant Major

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Band Sergeant Major (BSM) is the appointment held by the senior playing musician in a British Army band, who holds the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2. The BSM also functions as the band's senior non-commissioned officer, has various administrative duties, and is trained in conducting. Prospective BSMs attend a special three-week course at the Royal Military School of Music, one of which is run every year. The equivalent appointment in the Household Cavalry is Band Corporal Major (BCM). The equivalent appointment in the Royal Marines is WO2 (Bandmaster), sometimes known as the Assistant Bandmaster. The equivalent in the Royal Air Force is the Band Sergeant, who holds the rank of Flight Sergeant.
