GWR Gloucester to Birmingham Line

The Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway opened in full in 1881[1], being an amalgamation of Chipping Norton Railway and Bourton-on-the-Water Railway. The line from Kingham to Bourton-on-the-Water had opened in 1862.[2]

The whole line was formally absorbed by the Great Western Railway in 1897[3], although it had been run by the GWR since it opened. Passenger services ceased on October 15, 1962[4] with goods following on September 7, 1964.[5]
