Banashankari is a neighborhood in South Bangalore. It gets its name from the Banashankari Amma Temple on Kanakapura Road, one of Bangalore's oldest and most famous temples, which was constructed by Subramanya Shetty in 1915.
Banashankari is the largest locality in Bangalore, extending all the way from Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road. It is bounded by Mysore road and Girinagar in the west, Basavangudi and Hanumanthanagar in the north, Jayanagar and J.P. Nagar in the east, and Padmanabhanagar and Uttarahalli in the south.
Banashankari is the only locality which has all the possible classifications - stage, phase and block. It is divided into 6 stages, with the 6th stage being the largest. Banashankari 2nd Stage is the home of the Bangalore "digital baby boomer" families. The 4th, 5th and 6th stages are very new areas. They were formed by the BDA in the early 2000's and are located between Hosakerehalli and Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Banashankari has one of the largest and most crowded BMTC bus stands in the city, located near the Banashankari Amma Temple. Most buses running on the Outer Ring Road, as well as on Kanakapura Road , originate or pass through this bus station.
There are many good schools in this area like Sri Aurobindo Memorial School, JSS Public School, Auden Institute of Education and Little Flower Public School. First English Education Institutes Limited in BSK 2nd Stage is very famous for English Language Training especially for Foreign Students.
