Banana Bungalow is a chain of independently owned youth hostels in the United States started in the early 1990s by founders Keith Schwebel and Frank Buckley. The chain has six locations: three in California, two in Hawaii, and one in New York. It has innovated the way hostels are run and still influences modern youth hostels today. They maximized social interaction of guests by creating an environment of community and sub culture within the guests of the hostels. Banana Bungalow is also a contributing factor in the rise of popularity of youth hostels in the United States today.
