WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter Dear Bamsefar75! You are receiving this newsletter because you have signed up as a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. The purpose of this newsletter is to update on the goings on of the project, as there have been major changes, and a lot of new recognized content in the past few weeks. If you are an inactive user, you probably won't recognize the new and improved state of the WikiProject! From the project, Maxim. edit

Article Improvement By Maxim Upon some discussion on the WikiProject talk page, the Article Improvement Drive page was revamped by Krm500 and Maxim. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status. edit
Diacritics By Maxim In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt. edit
Task forces By Maxim This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES. This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock. edit

[edit] Re:Archiving request
Done! I hadn't realized how big that talk page got. I ended up creating two archives, and dropping the main talk page to about 74kb. Regards, Resolute 01:24, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- No, the mistake was mine. I copy/pasted the the archive12 link on the main talk page, but forgot to change the titles to archive13 and archive 14, I only changed the visual links. I noticed that mistake this morning when I simplified the archive box. Resolute 16:41, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

New recognized content By Maxim Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]
There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.

Did You Know? By Maxim
...that Wally Tatomir, head equipment manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, holds four patents on ice hockey-related equipment?
...that ice hockey player Mark Major attained 355 penalty minutes during the 1997-98 AHL season for the Portland Pirates, where he averaged 4.5 penalty minutes a game and still holds the club record?
...that Garth Butcher was a member of Canada's first-ever gold medal team at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships before becoming a pest and setting team records for penalty minutes in the National Hockey League?
..that the AMP NHL Winter Classic is scheduled to be the first regular-season outdoor National Hockey League game in the United States? edit
Featured Topic Drive By Maxim Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:
Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion. |

[edit] Los Angeles, USA
You cite WP:HOCKEY/TPF but judging by the discussions there with comments like
- articles that are obviously North America-centric
- It's also the most common format used by NHL teams on their official websites
- The National Hockey League is a North American hockey league and conducts it's business in North America (Canada, United States). The vast majority of players in the league are Canadian and American, and the teams themselves follow the current format, as do the majority of networks that cover the league - not to mention the NHL media guide.
it's obvious most had North American teams in mind, which means there's no evidence on any consensus on Swedish teams. And indeed the standard in the Swedish and Finnish team pages seems to be [City, Country] for NA players, or at the very least [City, Province, Country].
But whatever, if you want your Swedish pages to be North America-centric then fine. I wonder why so many pages use another format though... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.196.58.78 (talk) 20:01, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. I guess we are talking about Frölunda HC and not Los Angeles, USA. Yes, I undestand your point, but you should bring this up on the TPF talk page instead. I was just trying to make the Frölunda article consistent, since Krm500 chose to follow the TPF but overlooked one player. I am just the messenger. --Bamsefar75 (talk) 20:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] VEU Feldkirch
Do you know what happened to VEU Feldkirch? I looked at their website in German, it appears the team is active, but they are not a member of the Austrian Hockey League. Perhaps they were relegated to a lower level? I don't think the current wording (my fault) is correct. What do you know? Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 22:30, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Swedish Rookie of the Year
I am hoping you would be able to write a stub for Årets Rookie. It is the only red link on Template:Elitserien. I don't have any sources for it. Let me know if you can find any. Flibirigit (talk) 17:42, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter Dear Bamsefar75! You are receiving as you are a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey There's been many more new things going on at WP:HOCKEY, and I think this will help you to stay informed. Since the last newsletter sent out in October, there have been many new changes. I'm hoping to make this newsletter a bit more regular; Kaiser matias and Skudrafan1 asked for a new issue a week ago, but sadly, I've been a bit lazy and committed to other things hence this other delay. --Maxim(talk) edit

Task forces By Maxim There was a new taskforce created within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Boston Bruins. It was originally founded as a separate WikiProject, but was quickly turned into a taskforce within WikiProject Ice Hockey. The list of participants is located here. Located at WP:BRUINS, the taskforce's goals are to make Boston Bruins and Bobby Orr featured articles. Good luck! edit
New Administrators By Maxim
A previously admin-only feature has been made available for all users. The rollback feature allows a user to quickly revert vandalism with one click. If you wish to have rollback, contact an active admin or post a request to WP:RFR. edit
Featured Topic Drive By Maxim The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY. edit
