Bampini

Bampini, Bambini or Babini (Greek: Μπαμπίνη) is a village located in the northern part of the municipality of Astakos in the western part of the prefecture of Aetolia-Acarnania. The road linking Astakos and Xiromeri runs through Babini. Bampini is also accessible with the Vonitsa - Astakos - Aitoliko Road. It is located NE of Astakos, SE of Vonitsa, S of Amfilochia, W of Agrinio, WNW of the Rio-Antirio Bridge and NW of Messolonghi and Aitoliko.

Farmlands surround the villages with mainly pastures and groves around the area. The hills and the mountains including some dry valleys surround Bambini with mainly of grasslands and rocks. Taller mountains cover the north and east. Much of the area are deforested. The local newspaper for the community is known as En Bampini.

Babini has a small kindergarten school, a school, a church and a square (plateia).

The entire population prior to the late-20th century were entirely rural and were also farmers. Today, it is still the majority of the population of the settlement. Pavement and electricity were cut off until the mid to late 20th century.

In March 3, 1998, forest fires continued around the Bambini area while the fires reached near Valto, fires around Bampini began to stop.
