From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello "Baloo rch" and welcome to Wikipedia. A few tips for you:

I had heard of Villa Las Estrellas many years ago, but didn't realize it still had long-term population. Doesn't Chile claim to have the first child ever born in Antarctica? DavidWBrooks 16:16, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Here is an item I copied from the Antartic Sun, a paper printed at McMurdo Sound:

Emilio Marcos Palma was the first child born in Antarctica, January 7, 1978. Because he was born to Argentine parents on the Argentine Base Esperanza, near the tip of the Antarctic peninsula, he was declared an Argentine citizen. His unusual birthplace has brought Marcos a visit from Prince Andres of Holland, letters from presidents around the world, and an invitation to Antarctic Treaty meetings. In 1984 Juan Pablo Camacho was born at the Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva Base, becoming the first Chilean born in Antarctica. Soon after a girl, named Gisella, was born at the same station. Eduardo Frei and Esperanza bases are the only ones in Antarctica with families living year round. The most recent population numbers available included 13 families at Eduardo Frei with 17 children younger than 14 and 10 families at Esperanza with 21 children. Most of the children living there now were born elsewhere. DavidWBrooks 17:55, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Yes, it's José Miguel on the stamps, I tweaked the list. Hopefully you can do biographies for these guys? Information in English is pretty scarce, and the changing faces on the stamps probably have interesting connections to political changes that would be nice to know more about! Stan 17:40, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Put the Huascar on your 'to do' list. Make sure it links to warships etc! Cheers! Wetman 18:23, 18 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for putting up José Miguel Carrera! I spiffed up the prose, added some links to things that I'd also like to see get articles. Stan 04:13, 23 Dec 2003 (UTC)

--AstroNomer 07:07, Jun 2, 2004 (UTC)

Stern 20:37, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I will put the Valpo-translation to my to-do-list. I worked in most of the chilean cities articles in the german Wikipedia and put a lot of historic information from an old encyclopedia from 1888 into the articles. I would be glad if those information could spread to the english and spanish language world. Stern 21:19, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Valparaíso

Late, but hopefully not too late, I tried to translate those sections from the english text to the german version de:Valparaíso which were missing. You may want to use the photos from the french Wikipedia which I also used in the german text and which are good. In the german text you will find an archaic map of the bay. Unfortunately it is in german, but perhaps you can use it. Chaopo Stern 22:05, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)

What actually does Valparaíso mean? Is it derived from "valle" and "paraíso"? Im not sure in "Val-" Stern 11:57, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Mapuches

Hola Baloo. Tú escribiste en Mapuche:

According to official Chilean statistics, 100% of Chilean Mapuche have some non-Mapuche ancestors and more than 90% of the general Chilean population have Native American (mostly Mapuche) ancestors on their genealogy.

Esto es muy interesante, y me gustaría saber de dónde sacaste esta información. ¿Dónde están estas estadísticas oficiales? ¿Quién las recopiló? ¿Dónde puedo consultarlas? Gracias. --Cantus 21:42, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Fuerte bulnes chile.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fuerte bulnes chile.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 18:42, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)

 • Another image that you uploaded is at Image:Porvernir chile I.jpg. Could you please review that one, and any others whose provenance you know? Thanks! - Kbh3rd 18:21, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Image:Utfsm.png

Hello Baloo rch, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Utfsm.png) was found at the following location: User:Baloo rch/Sandbox/UTFSMbeta. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Please note that it is possible that the image on your page is included vie a template or usebox. In that case, please find a free image for the template or userbox. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 06:00, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Utfsm.png

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Utfsm.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 14:48, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Utfsm.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Utfsm.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
