The Article exhibits a definite bias. References to the schools 'reputation' are unfounded and arguably irrelevant. - 18/01/06
[edit] Balwyn High School article bias
Whilst the "reputation" or "performance" of Balwyn High School is relevant to possibly readers of this article, overall this piece presents itself as a one of simple marketing. This is ultimately against the very nature of wikipedia, and furthermore only reveals the grim nature of society in that a school, a vestige of education and free spirit, must descend to such a level to attract students. Further in this regard the reputation portrayed of Balwyn High itself comes under question as a "marketing pamphlet", possibly by the school itself, is hardly an objective standpoint to judge reputation.
- I agree that the article could be written in more neatural language. However you're quite wrong to say the school is going to any level to attract students -- on the contrary, Balwyn is trying to keep students away in order to deal with a massive problem of overcrowding, as anyone with a house almost in the zone will agree. The school is virtually impossible to get into
- I agree. I don't think the article is too bad but certain bits do read like a pamphlet. Although as an ex-student of the school and Balwyn resident, it is quite clear that BHS has a very strong reputation, and the line "In fact, some professional and mercantile families move to live within the school zone so that their children might have be eligible for entry to the school." is certainly true - "for sale" signs in the area always point out "IN BALWYN HIGH SCHOOL ZONE!" So I think the appropriate course of action would be to keep most of the POV statements but enclose them in a "Balwyn residents believe" sort of thing. Maybe I'm not the right person to do it though. —EatMyShortz 04:13, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

- I've tried to rewrite a bit. One thing that would help is a proper infobox and a translation of the motto. Not much call for Latin in the Arctic. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 06:04, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- Good work, Cambridge! The motto means "constantly faithful" - I'll add that now and an infobox. If you have any questions about the school put them here and I'll try to answer them. —EatMyShortz 08:45, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- I made a few fairly minor edits to the content in order to tame the POV tone a bit. I think it's close enough to NPOV to remove the tag. OhnoitsJamieTalk 23:25, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- I Do not agree that this article is neutral to any course. If you would like to visit any other school articles on wikipedia, it provides historical facts about the school and information on previous principals and notable events or student achievements. There is this underlying culture in Balwyn High School where it is becoming really narrow minded and you see teachers being assigned solely to edit the Article on this school just like it is an advertisement. Is Wikipedia a place for advertisements? There needs to be an uphaul on the neutrality of this article and more facts and history about the school added without it being deleted as it has been in the past. Wikipedia is a place for knowledge and information, not a place for schools to advertise. I am definately sure that the history of Balwyn High School is what makes it reputable today, not its fancy spending and Oversea student program that does not benefit local students. First, we sold our companies and jobs overseas, now we sell our children's education overseas. Moreover, the constant editing by personnel's of this site is blantant censorship of information and debate. A moderator must allow keen contributors to add to this article without the scurtiny of the School personnel. Wikipedia must remain a free place for people to share their knowledge.
Regarding the issue of entrance into Balwyn High School, it is virtually impossible to enter because any spare position are ultimately reserved for those "only quality" students from Asia who pay much more than local students pay. (in the $10 thousands) To assume that because "sale" signs around the neighborhood claim that its in the School Zone - indciates that people move in solely to secure a position for their children in the school is rather ignorant. Property agents go to all measures they can find to sell the property at a premium price which is their job. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.190.88.170 (talk) 13:32, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nickname.. East Kew High?
I know this is a trivial issue but is that really true? Obviously it is east of Kew High but I've never heard it refered to as that by anyone. Its i a somewhat misleading tidbit to include, as there obviously is no East Kew High - Kew High is about as east as Kew gets. It just seems out of place without an explanation. Comments anyone? - I go to Balwyn High and have never heard it called East Kew High. I doubt it is a nickname for it.
