[edit] controversy over marin alsop's appointment

the current section on marin alsop's appointment ("becoming the first woman in history to lead a major American orchestra" ... "At first, this created controversy") seems to say that "becoming the first woman" is the antecedent of "this", and that the orchestra members objected because she was a woman. see whether my version seems any better.
