Tony Corsini added postcard from the turn of the 20th century shows a small fishing station on Balta Island. but I think that sounds exactly like the village of Baltasound on Unst.--JBellis 20:43, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

There were fishing stations on Balta during the herring fishing boom pre world war 1. One of the jetties that still remains there is called "Fletts" after the company that operated from there. Many seasonal workers lived and stayed on Balta at this time, with fresh water having to be taken in by barrel. I know all this becasue I grew up on the neighbouring island of Unst, my Great-grandfather was a Cooper based on the island.
