The Missouri Pacific DR-4-4-15s were not delivered with steam generators; in reality, Baldwin standardized on a longer frame that could accomodate this optional equipment in the A unit that could at least have the potential as being a stand-alone unit. Prior to this, steam generators had to be installed in the B-units as was done on ALCO FA1's or EMD FT's.

The statement about the steam-generator equipped units being on the MoPac can be traced to Jerry Pinkepank's Diesel Spotters Guides; when the locomotives were delivered, they had freight gearing and no provisions for passenger operations.
