[edit] History

The team was originally going to be a member of the Eastern Indoor Football League, but left for the AIFA soon after the "League Showcase/Jamboree" held inside the Mahoning Valley HitMen's "ThunderDome".

Chris Simpson (formerly of the San Angelo Stampede Express) was the team's head coach in their inaugural season. [1] Playing a predominantly road schedule (8 away games, 5 at home), the Blackbirds finished their first season with a record of 1-12, although the team showed continued improvement during the season. On August 3, 2007, the Blackbirds announced the resignation of Simpson. The team is currently in the process of finding a new head coach. [2]

On August 7, 2007, the Blackbirds announced that they have left the AIFA. They are expected to join another indoor football league for the 2008 season. [3]

[edit] Trivia

With the formation of the Blackbirds, this is Baltimore's third bird-related sports team. The other teams are the MLB's Baltimore Orioles and the NFL's Baltimore Ravens.

The first Touchdown in team history was scored in the 4th quarter of the First game of the season, on the road against the Reading Express. It was a 15-yd. Touchdown pass from Quarterback Joe Urso to Wide Receiver Kevin Dixon.

The logo was created as a replica of the Atlanta Falcons even though the Falcons are not based in Baltimore which the Blackbirds logo is not related to the Falcons logo that was first introduced in 2003.
