The Baltijos Garsas Festival of Contemporary Arts, sometimes still commonly described as rock festival, because rock music and its spirit was and still is the main driving force behind the festival conception.
Baltijos Garsas festival draws its inspiration in counterculture of 60's and early 70's together with parallel but specific movements of that period in Lithuania and neighbouring countries. However the festival does not aim to recreate the past, it rather looks to the blend of past, present and future, that's why along with past traditions it tries to encompass new contemporary trends and is keen to look forward as a creative hatcher for future artistic and spiritual developments. Therefore the festival's goal is to create free and warm atmosphere so that all the participants (both artists and audience) would have a full chance to express themselves in the best manner.
Although the festival started only as a music event, after 2007 festival the decision was made to encompass other performing arts, namely street theaters, circuses, art installations, video performances, lectures and seminars and other possible means of expression.
Baltijos Garsas also decided alongside the annual summer festival to make three concerts throughout a year, dedicated to Autumn, Winter and Spring.
