Ballysax Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ballysax Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the Republic of Ireland for three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1 mile 2 furlongs (2,012 metres) at Leopardstown Racecourse in April.
It was promoted to Group 3 status in 2003 having previously been classed as a Listed race. Prior to 1993 the race took place at the Curragh.
The race has a good recent record for finding subsequent Group 1 winners. Aside from the winners listed below, other notable participants have included Sinndar (second in 2000), Milan and Vinnie Roe (second and third in 2001) and Alamshar (second in 2003). The leading horses here are often seen next in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial.
