[edit] History
The Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA club was formed in 1972 when the two existing GAA clubs in the parish of Ballyhale agreed to amalgamate as they were obth becoming extinct. They were Ballyhale and Knocktopher. A third club in the Parish, Knockmoylan, had ceased to exist at some time in 1959. The Club adopted as its logo a three-leaf shamrock with the letters K, B and K inserted on a leaf each. The club colours are green and white.
Since its foundation the Ballyhale Shamrocks club has stood out as one of County Kilkenny's most outstanding club at senior level. Since entering the senior grade in 1975 the club has won some Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship titles. These county wins were subsequently converted into five Leinster Club Hurling titles. On St. Patrick's Day, 2007 Ballyhale Shamrocks won its fourth All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship title. This means that Ballyhale Shamrocks are, along with Birr GAA club, the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland club series.
They have also won a record four Roinn A U21 championships in a row, in the years 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 but failed in their bid for a five-in-a-row after losing to St. Martin's in the 2007 final.
The Roinn A U21 victory in 2005 equalled the previous best of three-in-a-row achieved by the club in 1972, 1973 and 1974.
The club has also won the prestigious Féile na Gael competition in 1998 which was hosted in Co. Wexford. They beat Toomevara, Co. Tipperary in the final.
James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick has also won the skills competition at Féile na Gael.
