Ballerina Handicap
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ballerina Handicap is a race for Thoroughbred horses. The Grade I race is contested each year at Saratoga Race Course and is open to fillies and mares, ages three and up. It is raced at a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt for a purse of $250,000.
The race is a major step along the way for older distaffers preparing for the Breeders' Cup Distaff.
Named for first winner of the Maskette in 1954, Ballerina, the race will be in its 30th running in 2008.
Lady's Secret won this race in 1985. In 1980, it was won by Filly Triple Crown Champion Davona Dale.
