From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ballantrae, Ontario (2006 Urban Area Population 1,278) is a hamlet in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Named for the village of Ballantrae in South Ayrshire, Scotland, the community is centred on the intersection between Aurora Road and Highway 48.
Recent urban sprawl had turned the hamlet into somewhat an urban area. According to Statistics Canada, the area is one of the fastest growing community in Ontario, and the fastest growing urban area in all of Canada. [1] as the population tripled in 5 years. The urban sprawl had been taking up land where once had been a golf course.[citation needed]
