BAL Bashkirian Airlines

BAL Bashkirian Airlines (Bashkirskie Avialinii) was an airline based in Ufa, Russia. It operated regional and trunk routes from Ufa and has added charter services to Europe, Asia and North Africa. It has filed for bankruptcy and has suspended operations in April 2007.[citation needed]

The airline was originally set up as an Aeroflot division and was formerly part of Samara-based Aerovolga. It had 1513 employees. In 2006 its licence was revoked by the Russian safety agency FTOA. It was due to relaunch services in November 2006 following an inspection of one of its Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft in Iran, when FTOA ruled that safety legislation had been met and services could restart[2].

On July 1st, 2002, Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937 was involved in a mid-air collision with a DHL cargo plane. Everyone on both planes died.

BAL Bashkirian Airlines operates the following services (at January 2005):[citation needed]
- Domestic scheduled destinations: Moscow, Nadym, Nizhnevartovsk, Novy Urengoy, Saint Petersburg, Surgut and Ufa.
BAL Bashkirian Airlines also operates charter flights to Sharm-el-Sheik, Hurghada, Cairo, Tunis and Barcelona.
