Baixada Santista

Baixada Santista is an official metropolitan area (Região metropolitana) on the coast of the São Paulo state originally centered around the port city of Santos. Due to its nearby fine beaches and proximity to São Paulo city (40 minutes away), suburban cities in Baixada Santista has become getaway destination and even a virtual suburb of São Paulo.

The region has a total area of 2,372 km². Although it covers less than 1% of the state's total area (248,800 km²), it's one of the most populated areas in the state. It's population is 1,586,146.
