Bains (Jat)

Bains is gotra of Jats found in Punjab, India and Punjab, Pakistan. Today there are numerous villages with the name Bains in both Indian and Pakistani Punjab. Bains is one of the surnames mentioned in the epic Heer written by Waris Shah. According to Heornle and Cunningham, Harshavardhana belonged to this clan. He is connected with Shrimalpur which is a village on the border of Hoshiarpur and Jullundhar districts in Punjab and is nowadays called Māhalpur. Even today it is inhabited by Bains clan of Jats. [1] They are mentioned in Mahabharata along with Khatkal, Karaskar, Mahishaka, Karkana and Viraka. Bains is one of 36 royal clans in India along with Salar, Dahima etc. [2]
