Estádio Evandro Almeida, usually known as Baenão is a multi-use stadium in Belém, Brazil. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 18,000 people.
Baenão is owned by Clube do Remo. The stadium is named after Evandro Almeida, who was a Remo's football player and employee. The nickname Baenão is a reference to the place where the stadium is located, called Travessa Antônio Baena.
[edit] History
In 1917, the works on Baenão were completed. The inaugural match was played on August 15 of that year, when Liga Paraense de Futebol (which was an all-stars team of Pará state) beat Reserva Naval 2-0. The first goal of the stadium was scored by Liga Paraense de Futebol's Aranha, who was a Brasil Esporte Clube player.
The stadium's attendance record currently stands at 27,200, set on September 14, 1972 when Remo and Vasco da Gama drew 0-0.
