Baelde

The family Baelde originate from Ypres in Flanders, which is now in Belgium. The oldest known member of the family is Philippus Baelde who was a Master of the Guild of Wool Weavers. He was also one of the commanders of the people of Ypres who participated in the Guldensporenslag, the Battle of the Golden Spurs, in 1302 by Kortrijk, where the French Army were defeated. Philippus Baelde survived the battle.
Only knights who fought in the battle had golden spurs on their boots, after the battle so many spurs were found that they called the battle the Guldensporenslag . The flower of the French Nobility were devastated at the losses caused during this conflict.
