From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Basically, I proposed a few months ago on one of the Esperanza pages giving an award for the "Person of the Year" to however many people somehow qualify, probably through voting. This page is being created to allow people to indicate whether they think the idea is a good one that should be enacted or not, and also, if they so wish, to indicate any individuals they deem worthy of such an award. I myself will be adding a few names below as some of the people I think qualify. However, I acknowledge my own lack of knowledge of many areas of wikipedia, and apologize if any particularly noteworthy individuals are overlooked in my original proposals. Please feel free to add any such names alphabetically to the list, and to support or oppose any nominees, again as you see fit.

[edit] Award itself
[edit] Support
- Obviously, as its proposer. Badbilltucker 15:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Oppose
- Oppose. This is not the way to go. People should be awarded based on the fact that they edit productively, not on the basis that they continuously edit productively. People who make many strides in bettering WP deserve recognition, but not on a day that Badbilltucker suggested should recognize everyone for their work. It seems to just go against the morals of the whole appreciation day. → JARED (t) 21:03, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nominees
Please add any other nominees alphabetically below.
[edit] Jimbo Wales
- Support - An often overlooked :) individual who stepped down this year from the post of Chairman of the Foundation in favor of another professional and is now free to serve as our main publicist and ambassador. Badbilltucker 15:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kirill Lockshin
- Support - The lead coordinator of WikiProject Military history, one of the strongest WikiProjects out there, one of the more active members in the new WikiProject Council, and a person of such universal high repute that he received one of the highest number and percentage of votes to be selected for the Arbitration Committee. Badbilltucker 15:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Support - I support Kirill's nom unreservedly, for as the creator of WikiProject Louisville, I am frankly green-faced envious of how well-structured his project is and continuously marvel at how motivated its members are. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 18:12, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kingboyk
- Support - One of the driving forces in the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, the WikiProject Council, and WikiProject Biography. Also the creator of the Kingbotk, which has greatly helped in the article assessment process. Badbilltucker 15:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Oleg Alexandrov
- Support - The creator of Mathbot, which has been invaluable in the recently created assessment units of many WikiProjects. Badbilltucker 15:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Plange
- Support - A relatively new editor who has helped to make WikiProject Biography one of the largest, strongest, and most active projects going. Badbilltucker 15:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sadly not currently active, although we all at WPBio hope she will return. A terrific editor. --kingboyk 13:22, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Whoever Created the most Featured articles this year
- Support - Sorry, I'm too lazy to look up who this person might be myself right now. Badbilltucker 15:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Clearly, we may want to limit the potential number of winners to more or less than the number of people who receive consensus support. Depending on the number of people who do receive consensus support, we will be free to either decide at that time, possibly with the help of one or more people judged qualified to do so.
