[edit] Plot summary

The CSIs investigate when Walter Darian beats another man to death in a casino parking garage. The CSIs find and arrest him after he calmly walks into a casino lavatory with blood all over his hands, washes it off, and then orders a meal in the casino's coffee shop- all the while showing no regard for any witnesses. In the interrogation room Grissom tries to take samples from under the suspect's fingernails, when Darian suddenly attacks him. In the ensuing struggle the suspect is killed.

Darian's sister appears after being given the news, however she appears relieved rather than angry. It appears that Darian had a short temper and murderous tendencies. After finding a waitress uniform in the trunk of Walter's cluttered car, the CSIs search his property and find the skeleton of a pregnant woman buried in the garden, however there is no sign of the fetus.

They track down the father of the woman's child. The father explains that the couple broke up after an argument and gives the CSIs the letter she sent him. A handwriting specialist establishes that the letter is a fake and that it was not printed from one of the printers in Walter's house. They find the child in the care of Darian's sister.

She explains that Walter gave her the child and told her to look after it. She had quite a good idea of where the child came from but couldn't bring herself to tell the child's father what happened and sent the fake breakup note. The episode ends as the final twist is revealed; the woman the CSIs originally suspected was murdered (the waitress) was just an alias Miss Darian used to try and escape from her brother.

[edit] Music

The background music playing during the excavation of the grave in Walter Darian's backyard is "Ein seltener Vogel" from the album Perpetuum Mobile by Einstürzende Neubauten.
