[edit] File Transfer protocols

Should this belong to the File Transfer Protocols category? It doesn't define any protocol of its own, rather its just an app that uses the HTTP(S) protocols to provide file transfer functionality. --Soumyasch 17:12, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure we can find better categories, so file transfer protocols is just a starting point. There's a category called Category:Free file transfer software, but not one for non-free. Have a look around Category:Network-related_software and see if there's something better... Warrens 18:46, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, the best match was "Microsoft Networking", and BITS can be loosely (with some stretch of mind :) ) be categorized as "Download Manager". Dunno what to do. --Soumyasch 03:42, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
I am, shall we say, not a fan of the idea of a "Microsoft Networking" category. I'll probably get it axed someday. I'm actually thinking about renaming the "Free file transfer software" category to "File transfer software", and sticking BITS and some other file transfer software in there, but that's going to be a bit of work. yeah, dunno. "Computer networks" perhaps? Warrens 04:37, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
"Networking Software", perhaps? And "File Transfer Software" sounds good. --Soumyasch 04:43, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question about the version history section

Is there a reason why this page says that BITS 3.0 was released before version 2.5? That doesn't make sense. Perhaps the release dates for those two versions should be reversed? — EagleOne\Talk 17:40, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

It says it because it's correct. Version 3.0 of BITS is only available for (and is included with) Vista and Server 2008. 2.5, which was released afterwards, is only available for earlier operating systems, and will be included with XP SP3. 3.0 includes all the features of 2.5. -/- Warren 19:20, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. I think some mention of this version numbering anomaly should be made in the article. I doubt that I'm the first one to notice. — EagleOne\Talk 01:47, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
