Backbreaker is an upcoming American football video game developed by NaturalMotion for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is noted for its realistic tackles that are produced in real time by the euphoria engine (The same engine used by Grand Theft Auto IV, as well as the upcoming title Star Wars: Force Unleashed)[1], as opposed to relying on canned animations like most other football games, which provides for an extremely realistic ragdoll effect. The game also employs a third person camera angle which is different from the traditional overhead view used by most sports video games. [2] The game is expected to be released sometime in 2008.

[edit] Released Media

NaturalMotion has released several short videos that focus on a single aspect of the video game's revolutionary engine. Such videos have featured the audio and audiance rendering. While none of these have ever been actual gameplay, on April 21, 2008 NaturalMotion released a short video that they claimed was actual gameplay footage and was in fact a mini-game called Tackle Alley.[3]
