A bachelorette party, hen party, or hen's night, is a party held for a woman who is about to be married as a rite of passage. This is a "last night of freedom!" The term "hen party" or "hens night" is more common in the UK, Ireland, and Australia. Another term is "stagette", this is used in Canada [1], while "bachelorette party" is more common in the United States. It may also be referred to as a "hen's night", "stagette", "girl's night out" or "kitchen tea" (South Africa in particular) in other English-speaking countries. Those attending the party are usually all female. If held at home, it may be an occasion to hold a pamper party or compare products like lingerie, women's sex toys, or to play games such as: "Truth or Dare", "Pass the Balloon", or a risqué version of "Consequences".
Companies sell decorations and novelties for bachelorette parties including products like "piñatas", fur-lined handcuffs, "willy whistles", and adult toys. Other companies also sell bachelorette party packs with games and party tools. There are all different products sold for this event. Many bachelorette parties have the girls wear matching tops. Some decorate the tops and another idea is to wear plain white-tees and have all the girls make comments throughout the night right on to the tee with a magic marker.
Since 2001, there are bachelorette party companies that provide planning services. Many of these companies have packages which include games, gifts, transportation and a guide for the night's activities.
Some bachelorette parties include a trip to Las Vegas or other party cities, but, for the most part, many happen at local bars or in the home to keep it more personal. It is estimated that less than 20% of all bachelorette parties include a stripper. Most party activities include adult games, drinks, and gossip.
In the United States, it has become a common practice for bachelorette parties to consist of a bar tour combined with a scavenger hunt, which usually has a risqué or erotic theme. The bride-to-be is invariably dressed in some fashion so that everyone in the bar instantly recognizes her as being the subject of a bachelorette party. Usually, she will be wearing a wedding veil and a t-shirt, which is to be signed by guys she and her friends meet in the bars that night. The bachelorette is often quite intoxicated by the end of the night, as both her friends and guys she meets in the bars will continually buy her drinks.
