Walt Disney's Babes In Toyland (Disneyland Records DQ-1219) was the original record album for the 1961 film adaptation. It is a cover version rather than an authentic soundtrack album. The parts sung by many of the actors such as Annette Funicello and Tommy Sands in the film are replaced by uncredited singers for this album. However, Ann Jillian, from the film's cast, is featured on Never Mind, Bo Peep, and Ed Wynn, also from the film, is featured on the Workshop Song. Ray Bolger as Barnaby in We Won't Be Happy Till We Get It and Castle in Spain is replaced by the instantly recognizable Thurl Ravenscroft. A single with Annette's songs was also available.
An album featuring the authentic soundtrack performances of the film's cast was released by Buena Vista Records, also in 1961. Zorro's Henry Calvin also sings some of the songs in this album apparently.

Musical movie magic came to life in December 1961 with the Walt Disney production of the popular musical comedy Babes In Toyland. Always searching for something new and different in motion picture entertainment, Walt Disney found all the elements in the famous Victor Herbert musical. Soon audiences saw forests walking to the tune of The Forest Of No Return, the colorful Toyland Village came alive to the familiar melody Toyland, and the exciting March Of The Toys was seen as it had never been imagined. The marvelous toy-making machine looked like the most fabulous invention of the modern age as it kept time to the very catchy Workshop Song. The musical score for Babes In Toyland was adapted from the unforgettable melodies of the late Victor Herbert, however a certain amount of modernization was necessary to fit the current trends in music. The successful results of changing the tempo of many songs, making new arrangements, and turning certain themes into complete songs was due to the exceptional abilities of the musical team of Mel Leven and George Bruns. Babes In Toyland received new life, and, as heard on this recording, was introduced to a whole new generation to make it one of the most popular scores in musical theater history.
