[edit] History
Established in 1960 as P A F Shaheen College or, Pakistan Air Force's Shaheen College, by Pakistan Air Force to accommodate the children of Airmen. It was part of a project where four Shaheen Schools were founded alongside the four airbases of the Air Force in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). The other three Shaheens are: Kurmitolla, Jessore and Chittagong Shaheen. There is a much older Shaheen at Karachi, Pakistan , P A F Shaheen College.
[edit] Current Status
Currently there are four Shaheens operated by Bangladesh Air Force;
1. B A F Shaheen College Dhaka, Tejgaon, Dhaka
2. B A F Shaheen College Kurmitolla, Dhaka
3. B A F Shaheen College Chittagong, Chittagong
4. B A F Shaheen College Jessore, Jessore
With over 4,000 students, and a faculty of about 200 staff members, B A F Shaheen College Dhaka, Tejgaon, Dhaka is ranked as the #1 co-educational pre-secondary, secondary and higher secondary educational institution in Bangladesh.[citation needed] Unlike many similar institutions, Dhaka Shaheen also runs an undergraduation programme - endorsed by the National University of Bangladesh - the single government appointed higher educational licensing body in the country.
Situated over an area of approximately 1.56 square kilometers, "Dhaka Shaheen" is by far the largest school (and college) in the metropolitan Dhaka area.
[edit] Administration
There are five parts of the institution,
- Primary and secondary bangla medium School (pre-school to year 10)
- College (year 11 and 12)
- Undergraduate program (Girls only)
- Golden Eagle (Playgroup section)
- Shaheen English Medium (SEMS) School
Each section is independent from the others and enjoys separate facilities and faculties. The sections are administered under their own Vice Principals (Education) supervised by the Principal. Disciplinary administration is controlled by an Adjutant, with comparable salary and privileges of a vice principal. From a purely administrative point of view, the adjutant has the office of the Vice Principal (Discipline).
