Bílovec (IPA: [ˈbi:lovɛts]; German: Wagstadt) is a town in the Moravian-Silesian Region, near Nový Jičín. It is situated at the declination of Nízký Jeseník mountains and on the banks of the Bílovka River.
According to the Austrian census of 1910 the town had 5,143 inhabitants, 5,080 of whom had permanent residence there. Census asked people for their native language, 4,771 (93.9%) were German-speaking and 259 (5%) were Czech-speaking. Jews were not allowed to declare Yiddish, most of them thus declared the German language as their native. Most populous religious groups were Roman Catholics with 5,023 (97.6%), followed by the Jews with 80 (1.5%).[1]
