Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) system map in 1960, with the route of the Washingtonian between Baltimore, Maryland and Cleveland, Ohio via Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The B&O's Baltimore–Pittsburgh segment is in (orange     ). The Washingtonian's cars were handled on the Steel King train of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad (P&LE) between Pittsburgh–Youngstown, Ohio, and the Erie Railroad between Youngstown–Cleveland (in yellow     ).
