Azucena Berrutti (b. 1929), a famous lawyer and Uruguayan politician, she is the Nacional Defence Minister, designed by the uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez on March 1 in 2005.
She was graduated form law school at the age of 29 in 1958. Eight years before she started working in the Government of Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay, in the administration area. As she was afiliated at Socialist Party of Uruguay, she was fired because of Uruguayan dictatorship, from 1973 to 1984.
When the dictatorship finally ends, in 1984, Berruti could come back to work in the Government of Montevideo but a little while later she finally retired from work. Anyway she returns to work there when Tabaré Vázquez was elected to be Governor of Montevideo in 1990, she was in charge of the General Secretary of the Government.
At the age of 75, Berruti, assumed one of the most controversial ministry nowadays in Uruguay. She is the first woman in this position.
