Azbuka Academy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Azbuka Academy is a public charter school project of Slavic Youth of America in Portland, Oregon. The first Azbuka will open its doors in the Fall of 2008 for high school students interested in the Russian/Ukrainian languages and cultures. Despite those who were not in favor of the Academy, the David Douglas School Board conditionally approved the school in February 2008 and the Academy will be Oregon's first charter high school with a focus on Russian language and culture.[1] Those who were not in favor of approving the charter school suggested allowing the public high school to improve its offerings first.[2] There were also concerns that the planned programming might not meet the needs of the Academy's proposed audience, those who do not succeed in traditional schools.[3]
