Alleged death

This is utter crap! Axl Rose is very much alive. Mugger 16:19, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Issues with name

"He would only refer to himself as "W. Rose", however, as he did not wish to share a name with his biological father."

This sentence makes no sense to me. His biological father's name IS Rose, so why would Axl want to be called like that as well, if he dislikes him?

Of course it makes sense if his father has the same first name as he does. Rose is not that uncommon.

pre-guns'n'roses bands

before guns'n'roses, axl rose was in the bands l.a. guns, hollywood rose, axl, rose, and rapidfire. Gringo300 14:20, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

questions

Some questions for this article to answer:

  • is it his real name?
  • if not, what was?

There's an often-repeated bit of pop trivia that his name is an anagram or "oral sex" -- that's true, but is it deliberate or a coincidence?

It's not his real name - I looked it up, I don't just know these things off the top of my head, honest. As for the other: I've never known oral sex be anything other than deliberate, but can't say for sure in this case... --Camembert
Wasnt his birth name, he legally changed it to W (Dont know if Axl is included) Rose sometime after he came to LA. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.223.107.220 (talk) 23:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC).

many consider

"Many consider Rose one of rock and roll's three greatest frontmen..."

I did a quick google on "rock greatest frontmen" and although Axl's name is mentioned a lot, I don't see him anywhere in the top three. Is there some poll or VH1-style list which places Axl at #3? IMHO: Rock and Roll has had so many great frontmen that the the word "greatest" is misapplied within an encyclopedic context, except for Elvis of course. ; ^)

Axl Rose's name....

His real name was - William Bailey, teehee, Bill Bailey. But he found out his biological father's name was Rose thus he changed it to William Rose. The Axl part wasn't added on purpose to make his name an anagram for Oral Sex, it was a name of a band he used to be in with Izzy Stradlin. Izzt told Axl - "You live and breath Axl so you might as well be Axl". So he changed his name to Axl and by coincidence ( and a dirty mind ) you can make Oral Sex out of it. - Bex-

Why does it say he was born William Bruce Bailey when he wasnt? He was BORN William Bruce Rose but had his name changed to Bailey when he was two after his mother re-married. I read in a book that Axl's birthname was William Bruce Bailey. He then later changed his last name to Rose. --Snkcube 03:29, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

I can't find a source on him being considered rock's greatest frontmen either. --Snakes 15:30, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

Lawsuit

Does anyone know what became of the suit between Axl & and several of the original GN'R members, it was supposed to goto trial the month wasen't it? Avador 04:00, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Contradictory information

The article says:

W. Axl Rose .... born as William Bruce Bailey...

And then says:

His biological father, William Rose, left the family when Axl
was two. His mother later married Stephen Bailey, and his
surname was changed to Bailey.

(emphasis mine)
My guess is that the second passage is the correct one, and that Axl was probably born William Bruce Rose (Jr.?), then changed to William Bruce Bailey at age 2, then changed back to his birth name at age 17 (or to the abbreviated form "W. Rose" as stated further down in the article, meaning that for some period of time, his first name was legally a single letter?) Anybody care to research this one? — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) June 29, 2005 09:57 (UTC)

yeah he was william bruce rose at birth.--bigguapo

i remember

i remember it being stated in an interview that his first name is just 'w'. his reasoning was because 'william' (his father) was an asshole so it's just W. i don't feel like looking for it, but it's definitely true if anyone cares to pursue it. --Elysianfields 21:22, 25 August 2005 (UTC))

IIRC, he was born William Rose, changed to William Bailey at two years old when his mother remarried, changed back to William Rose at 17 when he discovered the identity of his biological father, added Axl as his middle name, and subsequently shortened his first name to just "W" because of his unwillingness to share a first name with his real father. Some reports give that at some point he was called William Bruce Bailey, but whether Bruce was his given middle name at birth (William Bruce Rose?) is unclear. It is also possible that his first name was shortened before the Axl was added, that will have to be verified as well. Currently, his name is W Axl Rose. P 16:21, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

I googled Axl Rose Bios and I got this info:

  • http://www.mygnr.com/members/axl.html - Axl Rose was once known by the name of Bill Bailey. Bailey being his stepfathers name. He took the name of Rose when he found out when he found out it was his real father's name.
  • http://www.thestudentzone.com/articles/axlrose.html - Mother Sharon E Bailey and father William Rose split when he was two, with Rose Snr disappearing, and Sharon later marrying L Stephen Bailey. Born William Bruce Rose he acquired his stepfather's surname, and was known as Bill Bailey, before changing it back to Rose at 17 after learning about his real father. Later he shortened his first name to W ("Because William was an asshole") and then added the Axl after a pre-GNR band name.
  • http://www.livedaily.com/artists/bio/1437.html - William Bruce Rose was born on February 6, 1962, in Lafayette, IN, and suffered sexual abuse from his biological father and physical abuse from his eventual stepfather at an early age (Rose changed his name to William Bailey after his mother remarried).

These four sources say that he was born Rose, took on Bailey, then changed back to Rose at 17. This is also the general consensus on this talk page, so I will be changing the opening paragraph and removing the contradict tag. --Kevin McManus 23:10, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

l.a. guns demos with axl rose?

a long time ago, i was told that l.a. guns recorded demos with axl rose on lead vocals. does anyone on here know anything about this? Gringo300 07:00, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Maybe you are thinking of the demo's of him and Izzy Stradlin with Hollywood Rose? It has a bunch of GNR songs early in the works on it. Here's the link to the CD on Amazon = http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00022LJBA/103-8116996-3298251?v=glance&n=5174

yeah hes in the hollywood rose stuff, and ive heard about La Guns as well, but this one producer someone interviewed said the tapes probably were thrown away.

Martin Johnson?

The caption of Axl at the KoRn party said He has taken on a very similar appearance to Martin Johnson in his old age. This rugby player is of a much darker complexion, has black hair instead of red, and is pretty clean-shaven. That Martin Johnson article links to adventurers Martin and Osa Johnson, which features no pictures. Google Image Search yielded some depictions of the adventurer Martin Johnson, none of which were very good pictures. I was unable to find any connection of Axl trying to be more like adventurer Martin Johnson, so I felt it was not worth saying and possibly coincidental. Steve McLinden 10:12, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

RS article in '92

can anyone prove this ever existed, or is it just somebody being malicious towards Rose?--Manboobies 18:28, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Is this about his father sexually molesting him?
Google "Rolling Stone Axl Rose interview 1992," you'll find it. -- This previously unsigned comment is by Anonymous
No, this is about "Axl is said to have issues with women. He himself claimed in a Rolling Stone Interview in 1992 that during his childhood he was made to believe that women and sexuality were evil and that due to the violent treatment of his mother by his stepfather he witnessed as an impressionable child, he had been led to think that domestic violence was the normal way of things" If nobody points to the part of that article in RS that says it, I'm deleting it.--Manboobies 05:54, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Rose selling drugs.

Where has Rose admitted he sold drugs? --Manboobies 18:33, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't have a link for you, but I know for a fact it is true that he and Izzy used to sell drugs on the street for money. The story of them having sex with a woman while other bandmembers robbed her is also true. It was verified on MyGNRForum.com by numerous fans who had read about it.

You aren't a reliable source...neither are "numerous (unnamed) fans" on an anonymous forum. Vivaldi (talk) 11:41, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Stephen "Beetle" Bailey is WHO?

The opening paragraph of the article introduces Axl's STEPfather as Stephen "Beetle" Bailey, creator of the famous King Features Syndicated comic by the same name. Now according to King Features Syndicate, "Beetle Baily" was created by Mort Walker...so how can the article claim that Stephen Baily is the creator? Anyone...? 202.163.96.68 11:58, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

His voice

What is with this guy's raspy whiny voice? I like his music but it's strange. How does he talk in real life (surely it's a big put on like the Bee Gee's falsettos) and anyone got a sample of him? TheRealAntonius 06:54, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah it'd be interesting to hear his voice in an audio interview or something. It's weird how such an aggressive man can have such a "girly" voice. ;) Rogerthat Talk 11:40, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
If you want to hear his voice, hear's a link to a radio interview with him: mms://kroq.wmod.llnwd.net/a168/o1/kbaudio/axel.asf He really has a pretty normal speaking voice.

Uhm, his speaking voice is sometimes kind of low and horse. But it isn't high at all.

Don't think he has a girly voice at all.

Also, about controversy, the "Axl of old" would have flipped the crowd off and went home and WOULDN'T gone back out on stage after the crowd throwing things, shoddy work on the stage, and a poor soundbooth.

If you want to hear his voice, just listen to "K-DST" on the radio in GTA : Sand Andres,he is the DJ, Tommy "The Nightmare" Smith Lord revan 10:01, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Categories

When I accessed this article on May 16, 2006, there were no categories other than those that were spawned by the three stub tags in use. I thought that to be a little weird, so I added 1962 births, American musicians, Eccentrics, Grand Theft Auto actors, and People from Indiana. I suspect whoever removed the categories prior to this date did so accidentally. Please add more categories, as the five I added aren't enough, if you think of any. Thanks. Avalyn 07:38, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I have heard his voice on a number of interviews. It's very deep and slightly rhaspy.

Article title--why not at MoS-preferred 'most common' name?

Why is this not at the 'most common' name (Axl Rose) per the Wikipedia:Manual of Style?!? 24.18.215.132 20:14, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. The title should be Axl Rose. Alan MB 02:48, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Fixed. Fredrik Johansson 11:45, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Who cares?

"The band returned to the studio and allegedly recorded 13 tracks for a new album. These tracks may still exist today but have never been released. Duff McKagan has variously said in different interviews that the album either does or does not feature some soft ballads and acoustic-style songs."

No shit? --Macarion 04:49, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

The name of this article is "Axl Rose"

Therefore, the category links should read "Rose, Axl", and the opening paragraph should reflect that. The anonymous reverts to an incorrect version should cease. - Chadbryant 23:26, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

why'd you edit out the part where it said "axl rose is scheduled to appear at the 2006 mtv video music awards"

MTV Video Music Awards

Why was the part about Axl Rose being at the MTV VMA's taken out?...People Should Know

I agree with the first poster--Gnr21 02:22, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

removed category

I removed the category "LGBT Opposition" from this article. The editor cited a "2003 or 2004 Rolling Stone quote," but Axl Rose didn't do any interviews with RS in either of those years. There is the song One in a Million and some quotes in a 1989 RS interview...but he has since recanted and explained the views expressed in that song in subsequent interviews. He's also performed with gay and bisexual performers. I really don't think he belongs on a page with the KKK and Jerry Falwell or anyone else who actively opposes LGBT rights.

One of Axl Rose's biggest influences is Elton John, its obvious that Rose doesn't fall under so called "LGBT Opposition", the urchin who placed that tag on was probably just trolling. - Deathrocker 19:02, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I chucked that in, it sounded relevant. If you need a source, it's found in the book Long Hard Road Out Of Hell.--PublicSecrecy 22:45, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Plastic surgery

Uh, why no comment about his startling change in appearance in recent years, which has been commented on in major profiles, interviews, etc?

We could have a seperate section for Public image, like in Britney Spears. Britney and Axl Rose... the irony... xC | 17:29, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

does axl have a son? or a daughter maybe?

cant find if he has one? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.177.140.182 (talk) 00:46, 20 January 2007 (UTC).

No, he doesn't. Erin Everly once got pregnant of him in 1990, but she had a miscarriage that same year [1].
