Axial Seamount is a submarine volcano in the Juan de Fuca Ridge, located at 45.55°N, 130.00°W—roughly 480 km (298 mi) west of Cannon Beach, Oregon.[1] It rises 700 meters above the mean level of the central Juan de Fuca Ridge and is the most magmatically robust and seismically active site on the Juan de Fuca Ridge between the Blanco Fracture Zone and the Cobb offset. Its summit contains an unusual rectangular-shaped caldera that lies between two rift zones. It is known to have erupted on January 28, 1998.[2] It was formed by the Cobb hotspot.
