[edit] Summary
Cover of Andlit norðursins: Ísland, Færeyjar, Grænland (2004), a collection of photographs by Ragnar Axelsson. The cover design is copyrighted by Edda (Reykjavík), the owner of the imprint "Mál og menning", and incorporates a photograph by Axelsson which is copyrighted by Axelsson. The image is to be used within the article on Axelsson; I (Hoary) think its reproduction is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because: (i) it is a low resolution copy of a book cover; (ii) it does not in any way limit the rights or impede the efforts of the copyright owners to claim ownership of or derive income from the book or incorporated photograph; (iii) copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the artwork in any saleable form. The image is significant in the article because it shows the cover of the only publication dedicated to Axelsson's major photographic project, portrayal of disappearing ways of life in the north Atlantic. -- Hoary 06:59, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a book cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover or the publisher of the book. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other use of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
