Axel (51°16′N, 3°55′E) is a town in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 31 km southeast of Vlissingen. It received city rights in 1213.

In 2001, the town of Axel had 7421 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.9 km², and contained 3408 residences.[1] The statistical area "Axel", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 8190.[2]

Until 2003, Axel was a separate municipality.
