[edit] FURME issue
When I try to furme a logo with only 1 file link, it doesn't pick up the file link page name and drop it in like it used to. any ideas? MBisanz talk 20:58, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Also, its not picking up the new {{Di-missing article links}} template for the dfui removal part. MBisanz talk 04:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- Sorry about the delay, I was traveling this weekend. The first issue appears to be caused by a recent change in mediawiki that changes some of the underlying html (which is parsed to find the article name). I think I have fixed that now. I also added removal of of {{Di-missing article links}}. Let me know if there are any other issues. - AWeenieMan (talk) 02:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- My copy and pasting skills are sadly lacking. Hopefully fixed now (you may need to bypass your cache). - AWeenieMan (talk) 02:48, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:ShopNBC logo.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:ShopNBC logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] FURME request
What I am looking for is the ability to correct a fair use license, to lets say, {{PD-RU-exempt}}? This is similar to what MBisanz asked for with regards to the PD-Text logos. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 06:07, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Basically, if I understand correctly, you wish to be able to (in general terms) replace license template A with license template B, correct? This poses some challenges. Where as the free logo situation basically just involves removing {{non-free logo}}, generalizing this involves removing an arbitrary licensing template (and they are not all named according to convention and when you add in redirects it becomes a massive list of possibilities).
- So the question is how best to implement such a thing. The absolute simplest way is probably just to kill the entire "Licensing" section and recreate it from scratch. Thoughts? - AWeenieMan (talk) 15:57, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- Category is doable (like from Category:Image copyright tags and Category:Non-free image copyright tags), but is painful because it would basically need to query the API to get that list every time (or I have to hard code it). Ideally, templates would be named in a manner that makes sense. For example, it is very easy to find template of the form "{{Non-free," but for some reason some do not follow that pattern (and redirects add another layer of random naming). On a whole, the major license templates follow a standard pattern (generally starting in "non-free," "cc," "pd," or "gfdl"). That makes them fairly easy to find. It is mostly all the lesser used templates that have naming issues (see here for a list). So, I can find the major ones without too much trouble. Perhaps it would be a good idea to start renaming some of the other templates to conform. - AWeenieMan (talk) 19:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- I for one would support such a proposal. The bigger issue is of course the redirects that would be left by a simple move, as their usage would need to be phased out completely to effectively be able to determine the copyright tag from the page text. - AWeenieMan (talk) 21:00, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- Oh, it was not a question of technical ability to do such a thing (AWB would make it pretty quick and painless), I'm just hoping to avoid the machine-readable vs no bypassing redirects arguments (as "machine-readable" does not mean much to the average user). - AWeenieMan (talk) 21:24, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- Ok I've started the discussion at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Image_copyright_tags. MBisanz talk 03:41, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

- Renamed all the image tags, including the redundant ones, I had to have my account down-throttled by the sysadmins to keep it from hurting the servers, so I figured I'd do them all at once. Now to wait on the BRFA. MBisanz talk 06:31, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Update
All tags and images have been migrated to the new form, for FURME purposes, all non-free tags follow this arranagement
{{non-free X}}, {{Non-free X}}, {{non-free X|Y}}, {{Non-free X|Y}} (99% of images use these styles)
{{Template:non-free X}}, {{Template:Non-free X}}, {{Template:non-free X|Y}}, {{Template:Non-free X|Y}} (1% of images use this style)
{{ non-free X }}, {{ Non-free X }}, {{ non-free X|Y }}, {{ Non-free X|Y }}. {{ Template:non-free X }}, {{ Template:Non-free X }}, {{ Template:non-free X|Y }}, {{ Template:Non-free X|Y }} (under 1% uses this style)
Hope that helped, I'll begin merging some of the tags, but it won't affect any general regexes. MBisanz talk 04:46, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Excellent work, this certainly made coding the above request a lot simpler. As an update for Zscout370, I have a working script that will replace pretty much every common license template with one of your choosing. It will add a new tab to the image page (with an option to hide it). On the pop-up window, I have added options to both replace the license template with a new one as well as add the common maintenance tags. Once I am convinced I didn't break the rest of my code, I will add it into the on-wiki version of FurMe. - AWeenieMan (talk) 20:59, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] WP:HAU
Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 17:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
