From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Awas Tingni is a small indigenous Mayagna native American community of some 1,100 members on the Mosquito Coast of Nicaragua, in the municipality of Puerto Cabezas in the Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte. The community was involved in landmark human rights judgment against the Nicaraguan government, in which the Inter-American Court of Human Rights established the right of indigenous communities to their land as a basic human right.
