Avshalom, Israel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Avshalom (Hebrew: אבשלום) is a communal settlement and regional centre in southern Israel. Located near the Egypt-Gaza Strip border, it falls under the jurisdiction of Eshkol Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 264, around a third of which are retirees.
The settlement was founded in 1990, and was named after the former settlement in Sinai (which had been named in honour of Avshalom Feinberg), and was initially a ma'abara for immigrants from Russia. The initially temporary structures were later replaced by permanent ones.
