Talk:Avondale College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have added an info box on the right as is on most other university pages on Wikipedia. Am aware that Dr Cox' title is not Chancellor, am unsure on how to change the title. Can someone add the details like the logo, a motto (does one exist?) and attendance numbers. Thanks MyNameIsNotBob 10:47, May 19, 2005 (UTC).
Fixed, Checked the Syntax etc somewhere and changed it to President Admiral Trigger Happy 03:09, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What's with the Campus?
What's with the campus: Country/Parks bit? Avondale has 2 campuses: Lake Macquarie and Sydney. If you want to check for consistency, see for example the University of South Australia, whihc lists its campuses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_South_Australia Adrian, I don't understand your motive behind this change.
- It is ambigous, I suspect that UniSA is also wrong, have a look at Princeton, Rhodes College etc. Perhaps the label needs to be changed to campus surroundings, see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Universities. --Fermion 00:50, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- That template implies there is only one campus. So I suggest we list the campus surroundings for each campus, Lake Macquarie being rural and Sydney being urban. However I can't get the campus size (325 ha for Lake Macq.) to work. PS I'll try to get a logo sometime, but as stated elsewhere, copyright may be an issue...

- Fermion is right, I was trying to follow the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Universities standards. Which also means that someone needs to remove the title from Dr John Cox - yes, there was a reason for me not including his title. If you have problems with the template, say it on its talk pages, but for now, I believe we need to follow the template as best as we can. I have not made any changes as yet as I would like a consensus. Thanks. MyNameIsNotBob 06:21, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

- The problem is that if you look at the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Universities it is a draft template. So at the moment, we could really do what we wanted. Whilst I think that it is good to stick with standards, sometimes they don't make sense (like who cares if the university is urban or rural) and it is reasonable to modify it to convey information more quickly.

- Agreed, I chose the Global University template over the Australian template to minimalise conflicts, there are also ways that you can change the fields on the template. I need to work out how to do it. Other wise we can just build one ourselves and just post it as an idea on the template talk page. MyNameIsNotBob 08:24, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that the airstrip and Avondale Schools are no longer on property considered to be part of the avondale estate. Could someone confirm this and clean up the "disjointed campus" paragraph? Clank.r 04:38, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Motto
Fermion has put "Degrees With a Christian Focus" down as the Avondale Motto in the infobox. This is what appears as the slogan on all of the promotional material. However the logo has the words "A Higher Vision" emblazoned on it. What is the motto? Anyone have any ideas? --MyNameIsNotBob 12:10, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)
- Yes you are right. The motto on the Logo is "A Higher Vision", you are also right that you won't see that on promotional material, nor will you see the logo on any promotional material.-Fermion 23:52, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC). In fact, I think the full motto is "A Greater Vision of World Needs", or perhaps that was an historical motto.--Latch 12:25, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

- There are other mottos, such as "Degrees with a career focus". I understand PR is going to clear all this up.
[edit] History of the land
Just a little point, the section "...of land near Cooranbong for $3 per acre..." needs to be changed to either "£3 per acre" or "the equivalent of $3 per acre". If she paid $ in 1895 she has a very cool time machine. Cheers. Natgoo 20:21, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Name changes in History section
The history section of this article has recently been expanded and improved with references. I think that it would be appropriate to have a short section outlining the various names that Avondale has had over the duration of its operation. Two are already listed in the History of the Land section, but it is not immediately obvious that the "Australasian Missionary College" became the current "Avondale College". Who can get the dates for the name changes that have occurred? Latch 02:10, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] See Also
Regarding the Sunnyside line, would it be more usefull to list Ellen White as there is no article on Sunnyside, or you could start a new article. The Ellen White article lists references to Sunnyside but even by saying that what does Avondale College really have to do with it. I will add Cooranbong to the list as I feel if Morisset is listed then Cooranbong should be also. Woldo 12:11, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article Priority
I just changed the article priority from low to medium. Surely Avondale College is at least as notable as Amazing Facts (which has medium priority)? If someone thinks that the priority should be "low", feel free to change it back - I won't be offended :-). But in that case I think that a few other articles should have their priority dropped back as well. That would include Doug Batchelor and perhaps others as well. If you disagree with me about notability, please share your thoughts because I don't know everything, but I am committed to improving our Wikiproject! -- Colin MacLaurin 18:10, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Feel free to change the article ratings. I have been responsible for labelling most of the articles and I am pretty sure I have made some systematic errors along the way. So someone willing to correct that is most appreciated. MyNameIsNotBob 20:08, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Author
This article is looking very much like the personal page of Colin MacLaurin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.125.214.209 (talk) 12:31, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] College Church
Not having lurked on wikipedia for a while I thought I would comment on this before I do any changes. The section on the College church needs a lot of clarification added. For a start, College church is a conference church situated on campus. This fact is not made explicit. I am also dubious of the section on the membership committee, I would think it belongs more properly on the Desmond Ford page. Cheers Fermion (talk) 08:05, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- I look forward to your contributions. I agree that some of the membership committee might be undue weight for this page. However it apparently was the start of several major annual lectures. How about moving the bulk of it to the Des Ford page, and leaving a snippet to lead into the lectures? Colin MacLaurin (talk) 00:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
