Avitone Records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Avitone Records is an independent record label formed by singer/songwriter Jody Watley in 1995, established after Watley departed ways with MCA Records. The labels first release was her fifth solo studio album Affection released the same year.
Initially the label was distributed by the independent, but noted, Bellmark Records. Following its first release, the label became dormant for several years but was revamped again in 1999 with the release of Watley's seventh studio album The Saturday Night Experience, with distribution this time through Universal Music Group. In 2003, Avitone switched distributors again, this time finding a home at Shanachie Records. That, though, was merely a licensing agreement for the distribution of her eighth studio album, Midnight Lounge.
Shortly after the labels launch, Jody was quoted saying that she looked forward to using the label to establish new artists; to date, however, the only releases to come from Avitone have been Watley's own material.
