Avenue St Andrew's is a United Reformed Church in Southampton. Part of the church building is Grade II listed.[1]

[edit] History

St Andrew's Presbyterian Church was founded in 1853,[2] and Avenue Congregational Church was opened on Wednesday, 7th December 1898.[2] The two denominations merged to form the United Reformed Church in 1972,[2] and in the early 1980s a survey of the building in which St Andrew's Church met showed that £150,000 was needed to keep them safe.[2] Since St Andrew's was less than ten minutes' walk from Avenue Church, the decision was made to combine the congregations, with the new church meeting at the Avenue buildings as Avenue St Andrew's.[2] The St Andrew's buildings were subsequently demolished.
