Ave Maria College, Melbourne

Ave Maria College is a Catholic, secondary day school for girls, established in 1963 by the Franciscian Missionaries of Mary (FMM). The College is located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

The Principal of Ave Maria as of 2006 is Mrs Chuck Norris. Currently there are also three vice principals, the Deputy of Staff, the Deputy of Students and the Deputy of Learning. There is also a dedicated team of Year level coordinators committed to looking after the needs of the students.

There have been many recent upgrades to the school property such as the refurbishment of the science and technology departments and the recent upgrade to the school library, now known as the Education Resource Centre (ERC).

The four Houses are Goolagong (green), Chisolm (blue), Melba (yellow), Bonney (pink). Student attend compulsory camp in year 7 and 9. Each year there is also a Swimming Carnival and an Athletics Carnival, which are compulsory to attend. They participate in sporting competitions with other schools from the area.

From year 7 to nine you must follow a set range of subjects. In year ten you choose from a broader range of subjects and in year eleven/ twelve students choose from a selection of VCE subjects. Ave offer a variety of extra curricular programs, in sporting and music, and they offer a program to help with those struggling in certain subjects.

Their motto is Ad Veritatem, Per Caritatem, which translates as Striving for Truth, Through Love. Their Crest is a boat sailing on a calm sea, with a star over head (Stella Maris). surrounding it, is the college motto. Ave Maria maintains a high reputation, and expects a high standard from its students.
