Auxiliaries

The term auxiliaries comes from the latin auxilia (help).

It is generally used to describe people employed in an organisation, often pre-existing as a Reserve force, acting in support of a main military force.

The phrase auxiliary force(s) may also be used.

The term auxiliaries or auxiliary forces may refer to organizations where the word auxiliary does not necessarily form part of the formal title.

The term auxiliaries has other discrete uses in specific contexts.

Auxiliaries may also be locally recruited people who serve as an adjunct to regular military forces, especially in the form of colonial troops.
