[edit] Unit nomenclature

Since its inception, there's been a problem with this template generating a unit notation that is not only incorrect for the application, but also not appropriately formatted. In Foot-pound force, you'll see that ft•lbf is the formal notation for the unit of energy, while lb•ft is used to denote torque. In practice, lb•ft and ft•lb are used interchangeably to denote torque — though many physics professors over the years taught me that lb•ft is to be preferred — but ft•lbf is not used to denote the torque output of an engine or motor except by this template here on Wikipedia, as it seems. Having raised the issue in all the obviously appropriate discussion forums and received no negative feedback, I've boldly corrected the unit nomenclature generated by this template. --Scheinwerfermann (talk) 22:49, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
