I turned this into a disambiguation page because I was looking for "Automatic" in the sense of "automatic pistol", and instead I got redirected to "automaton", a page about robots and automata. Adding a short disambiguation notice to the top of the automaton page did not seem appropriate. -- Dominus 14:36, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)

• 『Automatic』（オートマティック）は宇多田ヒカルのデビュー曲。作詞・作曲は宇多田ヒカル。1998年12月9日発売。東芝EMI製でコードはTODT-5242(8cm)・4127(12cm)。

同曲で宇多田ヒカルの名前が一気に全国に知れ渡り、テレビで注目を浴びることになった。

オリコンチャートでは12cm盤と8cm盤と別々に集計されている。

週間チャートでは12cm盤が2位止まりだったが、8cm盤と合算すれば週間1位をとれていた計算になる。

12cm盤が1999年年間チャートで5位を記録しているが、8cm盤と合算すると年間チャート2位の計算になる。

12cm盤と8cm盤を合算すると累計売上は206.2万枚で、歴代シングルチャート19位となる。

表記上はノンタイアップだが、コント番組「笑う犬の生活」のタイアップがついていた。
