[edit] Early life

Autumn Patricia Kelly was born in 1978 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to Brian Kelly, an electricity company executive and his wife Kitty.[1][2] She has a twin brother Chris and an older brother Kevin.[1] She grew up in Cedar Park, Pointe-Claire in the English-speaking West Island region of Montreal, and was baptised on 18 June 1978 at St John Fisher Parish Church in Pointe-Claire.[3][4] After being educated at a Roman Catholic primary school she attended St. Thomas High School in Pointe-Claire alongside friend and actress Casey McKinnon and excelled at sport.[5][3] Her parents divorced when she was eight years old, and her mother remarried an airline pilot, Ron Magas.[3][1] Autumn Kelly appeared in the 1996 film Rainbow, which was filmed in Montreal for nine weeks in 1994.[6] She had the non-speaking, although credited, role of Tigrette Number 3. She later appeared in the TV series Sirens.[6]

Kelly graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies in 2002 and started a career as a management consultant.[7][8] While at University, she worked as a bartender and model.[3]

[edit] Relationship with Peter Phillips

Autumn Kelly and Peter Phillips, who was working for WilliamsF1 at the time, met at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in 2003. Kelly had already accepted a job with an American computer firm in England.[8] As of 2008, Kelly works as a personal assistant to the broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson.[8]

The couple live in a cottage on the Gatcombe Park estate, and Kelly accompanied Phillips on royal events, such as an 80th birthday dinner at the Ritz Hotel in London for The Queen.[7][9] On 28 July 2007, Buckingham Palace announced their engagement.[9] The Queen gave her consent to the marriage in a meeting of her Privy Council on 9 April 2008.[2]

Before her marriage, Autumn Kelly converted from the Roman Catholic Church to the Church of England. If she had remained Catholic after her marriage, her husband would have lost his place in the line of the succession to the Throne, due to the Act of Settlement 1701.[4][10] Shortly before their wedding, the couple caused some reported unease in royal circles when they were interviewed and photographed by Hello! magazine, and were reported to have been paid £500,000.[8][11] They married on 17 May 2008 at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.[11] The service was conducted by David Conner, the Dean of Windsor.[12] Kelly's dress was designed by Sassi Holford.[13] Her six bridesmaids included Zara Phillips.[11]
