The A8 highway in Poland is a short (35,4 km) planned motorway which, when completed, will form a motorway bypass of the city of Wrocław. Construction should start in 2008, and the motorway is to be completed by 2010. The highway will include a large bridge over the river Oder. The contract for its construction was signed on May 20, 2008 [1]. Construction is to start shortly and according to terms specified in the contract will take 30 months. The bridge will be built by a consortium of Mostostal Warszawa S.A. and Acciona Infraestructura S.A.
Earlier plans envisaged the A8 motorway to run the entire route between Wrocław and Łódź - and in a longer term connect it southwards with a connection to Prague. But a few years ago, the motorway was truncated to its current length. On the rest of the route, a lower standard express road S8 will be built, but no firm plans for its construction exist at present.
